Beatrice sends down a delivery for Monmouth School for Girls.

Wales youth player, Rosie, hit an excellent half-century as Monmouth School for Girls lost narrowly in their first-ever hard-ball cricket match at home.

Playing a Twenty20 fixture on the beautiful Sports Ground at Monmouth School for Boys, the girls were outstanding against their opponents, Solihull School.

Bowling first, Rosie (2-24) was on a hat-trick in her opening over and was supported by captain, Florrie (0-18) and Lotte (1-12) as the hosts limited Solihull to 144-3.

In reply, Rosie struck a fine 51 before retiring, while Beatrice (21) ran superbly between the wickets and Clemmie cracked a boundary from only her second delivery in hard-ball cricket.

Monmouth School for Girls eventually closed on 123-3, just 21 runs adrift.

The game was played in a wonderful spirit and Monmouth’s players can definitely build upon their skills.

Team: Florrie (captain), Beatrice, Clemmie, Eliza, Rosie, Lauren, Sophia, Tulia, Sophie S, Sophie P and Lotte.
