Costa Prize-winning poet Jonathan Edwards has delivered a powerful and thought-provoking poetry workshop to Year 9 students.

Mr. Edwards, who also teaches English at Monmouth School for Girls, devised the unique workshop as part of the Monmouth Literary Festival, which aims to encourage a love of reading and literature.

Held at Monmouth School for Girls Library, the workshop was also attended by pupils from Monmouth Comprehensive School. The group were introduced to a variety of different exercises before producing two compilation poems entitled ‘a week in our town’.

Speaking after the event, Mr. Edwards said “It was brilliant to see pupils from across the different schools writing creatively together. The pupils came up with brilliant ideas and were a joy to work with.”

Pupil Alex added: “It was very good for pushing us to come up with interesting material. I will definitely apply this in future.”
