Charity Book Fair proves to be a bestseller

October 17, 2018

Students from Monmouth School for Girls have proved that reading can improve lives in more ways than one, by hosting a Charity Book Fair.

Library Prefect Adele and Library Monitors Gina and Lowri helped to organise the sale of ex-Library books and DVDs in the Atrium. Old copies of books, duplicates and donations were on offer to pupils and staff, who snapped up the volumes as part of their half-term holiday reading.

As well as hosting the book sale, Adele, Gina and Lowri also helped to promote the event with marketing and posters around the school. Money raised from the event will be donated to Room to Read – a charity that seeks to transform the lives of millions of children in low-income countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education.

The charity’s website explains: “by working in collaboration with local communities, partner organisations and governments, we develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond.”

Describing the event, staff at Monmouth School for Girls Library said: “It was wonderful to see so many pupils buying books and supporting such an important charity. The sale was a great success.”
