School House is our Junior Boarding house available to girls from Year 4 to Year 8. Girls share with two or three other girls in recently refurbished rooms, all of which have been decorated and furnished with a fine eye for detail and comfort.

The house has two common rooms, equipped with televisions,  DVD players and Wii game consoles as well as access to computers and the school internet. The girls have a large in-house kitchen which allows them access to drinks and snacks during the evenings and weekends.

Weekday evenings are carefully structured in order to give the girls a good balance between prep (which is completed in the school library) and a wide variety of activities before the bed-time routine commences, according to age and year group.

Weekends offer the girls a wide mix of activities and relaxation time. Saturday mornings are dedicated to swimming followed by a trip into town or an expedition out in the afternoon, accompanied by house staff. On Sundays they get together with the boys from Chapel House, the junior boys’ boarding house of our brother school, and are taken on trips which cater for a wide selection of tastes. Recent excursions involve a trip to Warner Brothers Studio in London to experience the world of Harry Potter, outings to Cardiff International Pool, Alton Towers and Oaker Wood Outdoor Centre, to name but a few. The girls are encouraged to make their own suggestions regarding proposed outings and these contributions have added to the recent variation of destinations.

The transition from junior to senior boarding is eased by positive and strong links between School House and the other two boarding houses, Twiston Davies House and Augusta House. The girls take all meals together in the school dining room and regular visits between girls in all three houses ensure that friendships flow seamlessly across the age ranges. Sixth Form prefects are attached to School House and a recently formed Boarding Parliament ensures that each and every girl’s view is heard and respected. The girls also participate in Boarders’ Forum and Food Forum, both of which meet twice a term in order to discuss the day to day running of the boarding houses.
