A Monmouth pupil is making tremendous waves in her sport after winning a regional sailing competition.

Eleven-year-old Béa has triumphed in the South Wales Club Youth Racing Circuit (CYRC) series.

Racing in the Gold Optimist fleet against 15 other Welsh National Squad sailors, the talented Monmouth School for Girls’ pupil excelled in the five-event series.

Impressing at her own club, Llangorse, Béa also shone in events at Llandegfedd, Mumbles and Cardiff Bay before securing the title at Tata Sailing Club.

Heading into the final event, Béa was tied in first place overall with a Wales national squad sailor.

However, the Monmouth pupil hit top form to win the final event and clinch the coveted youth honour.

Béa, who started racing at the age of seven, has been in the South Wales Regional Optimist Squad for three years.

The Welsh national squad is for children aged 11 years and above and Béa is hoping to gain entry for the first time.

She is making excellent progress in her sport and has aspirations to sail with the Great Britain squad and compete for national trophies at senior level.
