An aspiring doctor at Monmouth School for Girls has finished runner-up in an annual neuroscience competition in Cardiff.

Caitlin, who is studying Biology, Psychology and Chemistry at A level, was second in the individual section of the seventh Wales Brain Bee at Cardiff University.

The 18-year-old, who is hoping to read medicine at university, was among a group of Sixth Form students from Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools who took part on Wednesday 12th December.

She was joined by Jo, Taya, Kaelyn and Will for the team section and the Monmouth students enjoyed the challenges set and all did themselves proud.

The event is organised each year by Cardiff University’s Neuroscience department and aims to motivate teenagers to learn more about the brain.

The Monmouth students were particularly enthused by the laboratory activities in the fascinating and growing field of neuroscience.

A Cardiff University spokesman said: “This year’s competitors produced some of the most impressive results we’ve seen.”

Caitlin, a member of the senior prefect team at Monmouth, achieved three A*s and seven As at GCSE and was the runner-up last year in Wales’ Schools Essay competition organised by the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.

Caitlin receives her runner-up certificate.
