A Monmouth student has been awarded a national language scholarship to experience life in one of Germany’s most beautiful cities.

Anna, a Sixth Form student at Monmouth School for Girls, has scooped a Dresden Scholarship for 2020 from the British-German Association.

Anna, an enthusiastic student of German and a keen musician, is among a limited number of UK students this year to receive the accolade.

It will allow 16-year-old Anna to spend several weeks at a school in Dresden, have the opportunity to improve their German language skills and make new friendships.

The Dresden Trust is a British charity dedicated to fostering good relations with the city of Dresden in Saxony, Germany, one of the greatest centres of European culture, which was destroyed by Allied bombing in February 1945.

Mrs Helen Smail, Head of Modern Foreign Languages at Monmouth School for Girls, said: “The Trust has done much to encourage reconciliation between the peoples of the UK and Dresden – by, for example, participating in rebuilding projects and through cultural and educational initiatives.

“The Trust believes there is no better way of furthering harmonious relations between countries than encouraging contacts between their young people.”
