An acclaimed author proved a popular visitor to Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools.
Frances Hardinge, who writes young adult fiction, described her dark and eerie inspirations and read excerpts from her new novel, Deeplight.
Year 9 and 10 pupils at Monmouth School for Girls and Monmouth School for Boys asked questions about the books which have inspired Frances, and were involved in a discussion about characterisation, style and the dreaded writers’ block.
Frances, a Costa Book Award winning author, drew on her childhood fears, nightmares and aspects of global folklore for Deeplight.
“Students were also able to purchase signed copies of a limited edition run of Deeplight which contained a unique stamp and number,” said Mrs Zoe Harvey, Head of English and Drama at Monmouth School for Girls.
Mrs Harvey thanked Pan Macmillan, Bookish in Crickhowell, and Frances for a captivating afternoon at Monmouth School for Girls.
