A fascinating voyage into brain science

November 22, 2019

Sixth Form students at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools have had a fascinating insight into neuroscience and dissection.

Dr Guy Sutton, an Honorary (Consultant) Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham, took A level Psychology and Biology students into the world of brain science.

Dr Sutton, who is director and founder of Medical Biology Interactive, told how recreational drugs can affect the brain and even a product like Marmite can have an impact on brain function.

The tutorials took place at Monmouth School for Girls and were directly linked to the Psychology and Biology courses.

He ran stimulating neuroscience workshops for the students at Monmouth School for Girls and Monmouth School for Boys, which included the dissection of a sheep’s brain.

Students also heard about conditions, such as schizophrenia and other disorders of the human brain, which lead to severe mental health issues.
