Musician, Eleanor, is presented with the Blue Riband prize by Mr Mario Conway.

The children at Monmouth School Girls’ Prep showcased their creative colours in a wonderful celebration of Welsh culture today (Wednesday 27th February).

Stylish dance routines, well-constructed poetry recitals and polished instrumental and vocal performances by the school’s musicians were enjoyed by a large and appreciative audience.

The Eisteddfod, which took place in the main hall at Monmouth School for Girls, is always one of the main highlights of the academic year.

The pupils in Prosser House cheered with delight after being declared the overall winners of the event.

Eleven-year-old Ellena was crowned the Bard for her outstanding poem which featured a lonely dragon who was seeking friendship.

And pianist, Eleanor, triumphed in the hotly-contested instrumental and vocal music finals.
The 10-year-old was awarded the Blue Riband prize by the former Director of Music at Monmouth School for Girls, Mr Mario Conway, who was the adjudicator.

The house choirs each sang their version of A Whole New World (Aladdin) before children, teachers and parents joined together to bring the Eisteddfod to a close with a rousing rendition of the Welsh national anthem, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau.

Ellena was crowned the Bard for her outstanding poem.

Prosser House were the overall winners of the Eisteddfod.
