Excitement as My Fair Lady opens at The Blake Theatre this week

March 13, 2023

Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools’ musical production of My Fair Lady opens at The Blake Theatre on Wednesday (15th March) at 7pm.
A talented cast from the senior schools will be performing wonderful songs by Lerner and Loewe including, Wouldn’t It Be Loverly, With a Little Bit of Luck, I Could Have Danced All Night and On the Street Where You Live.
The story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl (played by Lucy) who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, a phonetician, (played by Max), so that she may pass as a lady.
Despite his cynical nature and difficulty understanding women, Higgins grows attached to her.
Colonel Pickering, another linguist, (played by William) and Eliza’s father, Alfred P. Doolittle (played by Sammy), are also major roles in the production, which features wonderful dance scenes.
The musical’s 1956 Broadway production was a notable success and this latest edition runs in Monmouth until Saturday night (18th March).
