Swimming

Our 25m, 6 lane swimming pool has a UV (Ultra-Violet) filtration system which means the chlorine levels are much lower than a standard chlorine pool.

Children’s Individual Swimming Lessons
  • One to one lessons can be arranged throughout the year with a member of our wonderful team of experienced teaching staff.  Please enquire at Reception.
  • Ages 5 and up.
  • £23.50 per ½ hour lesson or £220 for the advance booking of ten lessons.
Children’s Group Swimming Lessons
  • Designed for children aged 5 to 12 years of age.
  • Thursday evenings 5.30 to 7pm and Sundays 11.15am to 12.45pm. Both term time only.
  • Each lesson is 30 minutes.  Please enquire at Reception for further information.
  • Thursdays 5th September to 12th December 2024, excluding 24th and 31st October
  • Sundays 8th September to 15th December 2024, excluding 27th October, 3rd and 17th November.
  • £117 for the Thursday evening thirteen week course and £108 for the Sunday twelve week course.
Children’s Intensive Crash Course Swimming Lessons
  • Week long courses operate during the Easter and Summer holidays and are designed for children from four to 12 years of age.
  • Our experienced and sympathetic teaching staff cater for non-swimmers, improvers and the more able.

Adult Group Swimming Lessons
  • Seven week adult swimming course from Wednesday 4th September to 16th October 2024 and six week adult swimming course from Wednesday 6th November to 11th December 2024.
  • Beginners 7-7.45pm and Improvers 7.45-8.30pm.
  • £63 for the first seven week course and £54 for the second six week course.
Yoga

Hatha Yoga is a general category that includes most yoga styles. It is an old system that includes the practice of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises) which help bring peace to the mind and body, preparing the body for deeper spiritual practices such as meditation.

Pilates

Pilates aims to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and wellbeing.

About Jennifer Boorer – Pilates Instructor

Jennifer has been teaching Pilates, body mechanics and muscular skeletal work for over 30 years. She teaches in the USA, Singapore and Australia and is part of a research group in Singapore, where she lectures to those involved in pre and post rehabilitation. Most of her work in the UK is on an individual basis and in the USA she lectures to those training to teach. Pilates was intended to be a one-to-one experience and she brings that into her class teaching as much as possible.

Lifeguarding

Monmouth School Sports Club is an approved training centre for the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ). Gaining this qualification is a route to a fulfilling job that could save someone’s life. The role suits part-time workers and this flexibility means it is an ideal job for young people (minimum age 16) at college or university. For some, becoming a lifeguard provides an excellent foundation for a career in the leisure industry.

The course is open to students over 16 who are able to: jump or dive into deep water, swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds, swim 100 metres continuously on front and back, in deep water tread water for 30 seconds, climb out of a pool unaided without ladder or steps, and surface dive to the floor of a pool.

Any candidate that successfully completes the NPLQ course will be offered an interview for the position of Lifeguard at Monmouth School Sports Club.

Our lifeguard courses run in August and October from 8:30am-5:30pm.  Our next course will run in October Half Term 2025, precise dates to be confirmed.

Circuits

Kick start your day with a round of Circuit Training, a form of conditioning, combining strength endurance and aerobic training of the whole body.

Time: Classes take place on Tuesday mornings 7:15 to 8am from 3rd September 2024 through to July 2025.  e

First Aid Training

Monmouth School Sports Club can cater for companies and groups requiring First Aid training.  Our fully qualified instructors deliver courses through the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS).  The qualification is Ofqual accredited and valid for three years, making it suitable for all industries and enabling you to meet HSE requirements.

What does the law say?

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate first aid training, equipment and facilities so that employees can be given immediate help if they are injured or taken ill at work.

What is a First Aider?

A First Aider is someone who has undertaken training and has a qualification that meets the criteria set by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). This means that they must hold a valid certificate of competence in either:-

  • First Aid at Work (FAW) or
  • Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
Who Needs First Aiders?

Every workplace requires a First Aider. Depending on the size of the organisation a designated number of employees will be required to hold the full First Aid at Work qualification. Specific employment sectors in which First Aid is advantageous include childcare, education and the sport and leisure industry.

Teaching Swimming Courses

STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming will qualify you to teach non-swimmers, beginners and improvers.

This Ofqual regulated qualification is the first step in your swimming teaching career and on successful completion of the course you will be able to teach your very own class of 12 participants independently. This course can lead straight to paid employment teaching adults or children.

NEW since 2023 STA have revamped and redesigned the STA Level 2 Award meaning its bigger, better and gives you more scope to teach at swim schools of all sizes and now carries the endorsement to CIMSPA Professional Standards.

STA Award in Teaching Swimming

STA Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming will qualify you to teach advanced swimmers and school swimming.

This Ofqual regulated qualification will progress your teaching career and expand your expertise to teach competitive strokes, survival and rescue skills, diving, competitive starts and turns, allowing you to teach non-swimmers through to advanced participants.

This course can lead straight to paid employment, teaching adults or children and meets CIMSPA’s employer-led swimming teacher professional standard.
