English Primary Schools’ Chess Association Championships 2014

March 11, 2014

This prestigious team event now attracts hundreds of entries from across the country. Inglefield U9s & U11s were two of 24 teams taking part in the first round Zonal in Chepstow in March.

The U11 team was captained by Welsh International Alice, who won all her games. The Inglefield line-up also featured the talents of Lowri & Llinos, as well as Beatrice, who recently won the Best Girl Trophy at the West of England Junior Championships. Two players were unavailable on the day, but luckily Alys from Y3 stepped into the breach.

The U9s, captained by Elena, also included Lizzie, Talullah, Aneshka & Ottilie, all competing with skill & determination against schools from across South Wales & the West Country. Both teams were unlucky not to proceed to the semi-finals but all the girls were without doubt a credit to the school. Parents – supportive as ever – acted as Team Managers during the day.

Coach Mr.Thomas said today: “This was a very good day for two very young Inglefield teams who will go from strength to strength. It was a great performance from Alice & I was very grateful to Alys for manning up. As individuals I expect to see many of these girls qualifying for the Wales Megafinal in May.”
