A Monmouth teenager has clinched silver and bronze medals at the Welsh Athletics Junior Championships in Cardiff.

Antonia built on her gold medal-winning performance the previous week at the Welsh Schools Athletic Association Track & Field Outdoor Championships.

The Monmouth School for Girls’ pupil had another excellent run in the heat at the same venue on Saturday 14th July as she finished second in the Under-15 Girls’ 300m.

She was beaten by the standout age-group sprinter in Wales, Ella of Pembrokeshire Harriers, who is also the 100m and 200m champion.

However, Antonia ran a new personal best of 42.00 seconds to cement second place in the Welsh rankings and is now 35th in the UK for the Under-15 girls’ 300 metres

She also ran a storming final leg for Newport Harriers’ Under-15 Girls’ 4x100m relay team to take a team bronze medal.

Antonia has three more club matches this summer before travelling to Bedford for the England Athletics Outdoor Championships over the weekend of 25th and 26th August.
Next year, at under-17 level, the Monmouth athlete is looking forward to competing in the 300m hurdles as well as continuing with the 300m.

With Alaw of Cardiff Archers in the year above Antonia at school, Monmouth School for Girls could see some fierce competition between two of its best athletes next season.
