Budding scientists recognised in Chemistry Olympiad

Two budding scientists at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools gained silver awards in the 55th annual Chemistry Olympiad.
Marco and Matthew secured a silver, while Sophia also excelled, gaining bronze and Anderson, a Year 12 student, missed out on bronze by just one mark.
The Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad always has a huge entry across the UK, despite the degree of difficulty.
The entry was up by more than 3,500 candidates this year and the paper was a draining two hours of university-standard calculations and abstract chemistry.
Only 9.2% of the candidates were awarded gold, while 23.4% achieved silver and 39.5% bronze.
“Our Year 13 A level Chemistry students are coming ever closer to the end of their time at school here,” said Miss Diane Crichton, Head of Chemistry at Monmouth School for Girls.
“I am very proud of them, and I wish them all every success in their future careers within science.”
