Buchanan House Charity Black Mountain 3 Peaks Challenge

May 20, 2014

On Sunday 11th May 2014, 12 boys and several members of staff took approximately 6 hours to walk up the Sugar Loaf, the Skirrid and the Blorenge.

The boys were a little shocked by the gradient of the final climb and they deserve a lot of credit for their efforts, especially since the difficult conditions added to the challenge. We completed the challenge for two charities, the Raven House Trust in Newport and C-R-Y (an organisation that is raising awareness for cardiac arrest in young people). Owen in Buchanan House suggested this charity since a close friend of his died from a heart attack two years at the age of 16.

The boys at Buchanan House have been keen to raise money for both charities and some of them (a small group, eventually on 3 staff!!) decided that whilst walking all three in a day is an endeavour in itself, it would be more of a challenge to run to the top instead! Hence there were two groups, one for the runners and the other for the walkers; both groups were accompanied by members of staff. Well done to Dr Evans, Dr Murgatroyd and Mr Oakley who decided to run it!

Thanks again to all staff involved, it was a very enjoyable day out in the hills.
