An impressive young sportsman at Monmouth School Boys’ Prep has shone for South Wales in the Lawn Tennis Association’s annual competition.

Ten-year-old Will played in the Under-12s section of the LTA County Cup Qualifying Event in Bridgend last weekend.

Playing a year up, Will showed great maturity and composure as he and his partner held their nerve in a doubles rubber against Wiltshire.

Will, from Year 6, and his partner prevailed in a pair of nail-biting tie breaks, the first set one went 12-10, that proved crucial for the team.

South Wales achieved a clean sweep, beating Avon, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire in their three matches.

The LTA County Cup Events give young players an opportunity to play in a competitive team environment.

Will, who is hoping to be involved in the Under-11s competition in June, does most of his tennis training at Usk under the supervision of coach, Sean Jones.
