Raising money for Sport Relief
Monmouth School Boys’ Prep raised over £400 for Sport Relief by covering over a mile in a variety of way and guises. A great time is had by all for a great cause. Well done to everyone who took part!
A note from Monmouth School Boys’ Prep
Thank you very much for all your donations to the Unicef East Africa Children’s Appeal. We raised over £800 at our Harvest Thanksgiving Service. A fantastic sum!
Box of Delights
Boys were delighted to see what a difference simple gifts can make when they recently sent shoe box packages to needy children.
LATCH, Children’s Cancer Charity
This year, when Monmouth School Boys’ Prep pupil James H came to celebrate his birthday, he decided that he didn’t want any presents, and asked his friends to help a local children’s charity instead.
While James was on holiday in the summer, he met Mrs Sian Kosinski, who volunteers for LATCH, Wales’ children’s cancer charity. James and Mrs Kosinski chatted about the charity that she is involved with, which helps children and families affected by leukaemia and other cancers. LATCH provides accommodation for families of children who are treated at the Children’s Hospital for Wales and finances community nurses and social workers. The charity also funds research into childhood cancers.
In total, James raised £225 for LATCH and Mrs Kosinski and Mr Tony Curtis, Chairman of LATCH, travelled to The Grange to accept the cheque.
Mr Tony Curtis said, “I am very pleased to accept this cheque from James and his friends at Monmouth School Boys’ Prep. At LATCH, we are always impressed by the generosity and compassion of our younger supporters, and this donation will help to make a real difference to a family affected by childhood cancer.”
Mrs Elaine Thomas, Headmistress said, “I am delighted that James and his friends have made this donation to such a worthwhile charity. The boys are all considerate of others, and this thoughtfulness extends to the wider community. Last year’s Head Boy, James, donated his birthday money to Help for Heroes and we recently held a fundraising event for Rotary International’s ‘End Polio Now’ campaign.”
James was delighted to be able to help such a worthwhile cause and would like to thank all of his friends for their kind donations.
Help for Heroes
Former Head Boy, James, nominated Help for Heroes as his chosen charity this year. He raised £100.43 in a mufti day and £534.20 from the retiring collection at the Monmouth School Boys’ Prep Carol Service.
James raised a further £345.20 for this charity by asking for donations rather than presents at his birthday party. He now needs another £20.37 to make the total amount raised up to £1,000 – a nice round figure!
Haiti Disaster Appeal
Friends Rhydian and Gus raised money for Haiti through a cake sale. They had the idea together, organised everything: rallying their friends in their year group to make cakes, making posters for distributing around the school, selling the cakes at playtimes and counting the money raised. The boys want to thank all the boys and their parents who so generously gave of their time and money to make cakes for the event. The boys charged 50p a cake and made an astonishing £355, which, considering there are 110 boys in the school, means that the boys and staff between them bought rather a lot of cakes!
Monmouth School Boys’ Prep pupils make a dash for it in Santa Fun Run
