The boys and girls represented Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools.
Monmouth athlete Harry D finished third in the penultimate race in the Gwent Cross-Country League at Pontypool Park.
Harry remains second overall in the Novice Boys’ standings with the fifth and final race in the series set to take place at Bristol’s Blaise Castle on Saturday 3rd March.
Harry is a pupil at Monmouth School Boys’ Prep and helped the A team to a fourth-placed finish with an impressive 420-point haul – a new record for the school – at Pontypool.
The school’s A team have climbed to third spot overall – with a total of 1,475 points – and hold a 39-point advantage over fourth-placed Bridgend Athletics Club.
Harry took third spot in cold and wintry conditions on Sunday, finishing the 1.6km course in 6:25, six seconds behind the winner, Iwan Thomas, who is also the overall series leader.
Matthew was the second Monmouth School Boys’ Prep pupil home, crossing the line 18th in a personal best of 6:54, while John NB was 35th in 7:07.
Cameron H was 40th in 7:14, and Seb who suffered an injury at the start of the race, and Ben were 49th and 50th respectively.
Tom C, 61st, Frankie Thomas, 72nd, Harry G 84th, and debutant Max, 91st, also put in creditable performances for Monmouth School Boys’ Prep.
The school’s B team achieved their highest points total of the season to come 13th and kept hold of 11th place overall with 1,000 points.
The school’s C team finished in a respectable 31st place and remain 27th overall out of more than 50 teams.
While Harry D is second overall in the series standings, Seb is 17th, John NB 21st, Tom C 27th and Frankie 30th.
Max (far right) made a promising cross-country debut.
Jessica was the first pupil home for Monmouth School Girls’ Prep in the Novice Girls’ race.
Jessica was 34th in 7:49, while team-mate Kathryn was 51st in 8:23.
Grace, 62nd, Connie, 71st, and Emily, 83rd, also performed well for Monmouth School Girls’ Prep, whose A team were 13th out of 32 teams.
Monmouth School for Boys’ teacher, Dr Huw Evans, had a storming run in the Senior Men’s race to come 18th out of more than 300 runners.
In the Under-13 Boys’ race, Monmouth School for Boys’ pupil Rhys was 19th, while Henry was 23rd, Kit 38th and William 39th.
In the Under-17 Men’s race, Monmouth School for Boys’ George finished 22nd and Anthony 24th.
The Monmouth athletes are now gearing up for the Welsh Cross Country Championships at Singleton in Swansea on Saturday 24th February.
