Prep III visit the Spaceguard Centre

March 2, 2018

As a spectacular conclusion to their topic of Space, Prep III had an exciting and informative visit to the Spaceguard Centre in Knighton last Thursday.

This was a fantastic opportunity for the boys to see real life applications of what they’ve learned in class. The Spaceguard Centre is a working observatory and the only one in the UK looking for asteroids which may impact the Earth.

The boys were captivated by the talks from the professional astronomers on their important work on asteroids and space exploration. They also got hands on with activities on planets, sitting in a planetarium, and getting up close to the second largest telescope in Wales (the largest is in their new observation dome which is still under construction). It was finished off with lunch next to a trig point outside the observatory with lovely views over the hills of Eastern Powys.
