PII Pond Dipping

September 25, 2015

pond dipping ipAs part of their Biology topic on ‘Habitats’ Prep II braved the rain to observe a pond habitat and
survey the resident wildlife in the Grange pond. Armed with nets, trays, identification keys and
a healthy dose of enthusiasm they found some fascinating cohabitees of their school including
dragonfly & damselfly nymphs, newts and leaches. Their scientific study of the pond found that
the top three species that they observed were: pond skaters, water boatmen and cyclopses. They
will be following this up with an insect safari around the school fields which they have planned and
for which they have chosen the areas of study.
