Outstanding educational offer moves online from today

January 7, 2021

The outstanding educational offer at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools has moved online from today (Thursday 7th January).

With the entire United Kingdom in a national lockdown, the family of schools will be delivering live lessons via Microsoft Teams and, for the younger children, through Seesaw.

“At Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools, we are, once again, rising to the challenge and moving our educational offer online for the start of the Lent Term,” explained Principal, Mr James Murphy-O’Connor.

Education Minister for Wales, Kirsty Williams, has confirmed that schools will remain closed to all but teaching staff, boarders, nursery pupils and key workers’ children until the start February and probably until half-term unless there is a significant reduction in coronavirus rates.

Mr Murphy-O’Connor said: “Our remote learning provision was hugely successful between April and July 2020 and we recognise the importance of keeping our wonderful school community together even during the most difficult of times.

“Whilst students remain at home, we will continue to deliver live lessons to them via the excellent teaching community here in our schools.

“These live lessons will be augmented by the reintroduction of our Habsmonmouth Online. It is a wonderful resource and is open to students, parents and all of us in the education and learning environment of our schools.”

Mr Murphy-O’Connor continued: “We are entering the new period of lockdown with a hope; a hope that the new vaccination programme will enable us to emerge into a much safer world during the course of 2021.

“It is really important for us, at Monmouth, that the education of the children in our care continues and is not interrupted.

“We have always been proud that Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools are so much more than what happens in the classroom.

“We might be closed for the majority of our pupils as we enter 2021 but, as a community and an educational establishment, we are open and will continue to support our students in the world of learning.

“I am sure that 2021 will be as challenging as 2020 but I am equally as confident that the strength of the Monmouth community will shine through and will be able to meet this challenge head-on.”

We would love to receive examples of projects that pupils at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools are working on at home.
