Lent 2020

Lent 2020 Week 12: 27/3/20

A Note from the Head of Monmouth School Boys’ Prep

We come to the end of a very peculiar week, definitely the most unusual of my entire teaching career and I am sure that this applies equally to pupils and parents as well. A week ago, the school was closed to pupils but remained open to staff and the children of key workers. Events rapidly overtook us when, on Monday, the Prime Minister announced unprecedented measures to curb social interaction and try to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Since then, we have been working hard to provide emergency cover for the children of key workers, support children’s learning from home as best that we are able and also plan for a brand new approach to distance teaching ready for the start of the new term in April. I would like to commend all of my colleagues who have worked so hard this week in such difficult circumstances, the boys who are embracing their new home learning environments and of course the parents too – some who are working from home whilst trying to support their children’s learning and others who are continuing to put themselves at risk as they continue to work in key industries. The holidays are upon us, but it will be like no holiday we have ever
experienced. I urge you to find some way of relaxing and to encourage your sons to relax as well. At this time of national crisis enjoy the opportunity of having your loved ones at home; keep them close and protect them. I look forward to reopening the school as soon as we are able to do so.
