Exciting Science Activities this week

April 30, 2016

Science FairThe Grange has been a centre of scientific research and engineering prowess this week with the Prep IV Science Fair and Prep I joining forces with Inglefield House Year 3 for the ‘Bridging the Gap’ Engineering challenge. For the Science Fair, Prep IV learned about scientific method in a ‘hands on’ manner by developing their own research project and carrying out their experiments for it. Tuesday saw the culmination of this process where they presented a research poster and oral presentation on their work and findings, as they would at a scientific conference, to a panel of judges from Monmouth School including the Headmaster, Dr Daniel. The judges were extremely impressed by the high standard of work produced by all boys but the tight competition was won by Chris, Will and Jack with their project ‘Does Smell Affect Taste?’. In the PI/Y3 Engineering Challenge, the boys and girls were put into mixed teams and set the challenge of building a bridge from a list of materials whilst keeping to a tight budget. The boys and girls worked very well together combining the strengths of their group members to produce some fantastic bridges. The competition was won by Teddy, Thandi, Seb, Connie, Joseph & Kathryn with a superb bridge which took 800g before eventually giving way. A fun day was had by all!
