chessipOn Monday The Grange A and B and Inglefield A chess teams all travelled together to take part in the Cardiff Schools’ Chess tournament at Cardiff City Stadium. Each match consisted of 10 games all taking place simultaneously. Players earned points towards each match and everybody’s points really mattered. The Grange B had a mixed day with some victories and some losses throughout the day whereas the Grange A seemed to be unstoppable, winning all of their matches until the end. The final match was the clash of the chess titans as we came up against The Dell school who are formidable opponents at the moment. After a promising start early on, unfortunately a few of our players succumbed to The Dell’s strategic play and they gradually crept into the lead. Despite winning every game but one, the Grange A team eventually came in 3rd position overall, which was disappointing at the time when they came so close to winning the whole tournament.
