Boys impress at Pembrey Country Park

The junior runners at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools continue to make progress in this season’s Gwent Cross Country League.

Matthew and John led the way for Monmouth School Boys’ Prep in the second event, at Pembrey Country Park in Llanelli.

Matthew, who was 10th out of 106 finishers in the Novice Boys’ section, has climbed to seventh place overall in the standings and is second for his age-group in East Wales.

John was 22nd and is now 15th overall and fifth in East Wales after a promising opening two races.

There were also solid performances from Cameron, who was 40th; Joshua, 45th; Will, 46th; Monty, 84th; and Oliver, 101st.

Monmouth School Girls’ Prep duo Lara and Carys were in fine form, coming 34th and 35th respectively as 104 runners completed the Novice Girls’ race.

Seren also showed determination and commitment, finishing 88th.

The boys’ A team remain third in the team section with 224 points – 34 clear of fourth-placed Newport Harriers, while the boys’ B team are 16th.

The girls’ A team are now in 13th place in their section with 405 points.

The young runners can now look forward to the third race in the Gwent Cross Country League season at Blaise Castle in Bristol on Saturday 7th December.
