Amazing Maths – A day at the races

February 13, 2015

A day at the races 1Prep IV spent a very cold though exciting day discovering how maths is used around Chepstow Racecourse. Wearing their jockeys’ silks the boys visited the Weighing Room to learn about weights and measures, converting between imperial and metric units. Out on the course they learnt about Hurdles and Steeplechase Fences and got to see them up close. Trundle Wheels were used to measure the perimeter of the Parade Ring and the median value was used to successfully calculate how many horses could walk safely around it. The day culminated in watching the legendary A.P. McCoy race and meeting jockey Richard Johnson.
