COVID safety measures with entrance procedures

We are reviewing all our entrance procedures, scholarships and taster days to reduce any risk of infection around the schools. We are adhering to the latest safety measures and government guidelines to minimise contact between pupils and staff and restricting the number of visitors to our sites. We will make further announcements as soon as we can.

Monmouth School Boys’ Prep caters for boys aged 7 to 11 years of age who are working at a secure level for their age and who are likely to flourish in a stimulating academic environment. With around 100 pupils, Monmouth School Boys’ Prep combines the family atmosphere of a small school with the outstanding resources of Monmouth School for Boys aged 11 to 18.

Drawing applicants from a variety of local independent and maintained schools, entry to the school is subject to the outcome of an informal, untimed baseline assessment that takes place in March. The Head of the Monmouth School Boys’ Prep is very happy to look at a boy’s work in advance of any personal assessment to give parents guidance as to whether their son is likely to flourish were they to join the school.

The success record of Monmouth School Boys’ Prep applicants to Monmouth School for Boys is very high, with a significant number achieving academic and music scholarships and sports awards. Monmouth School Boys’ Prep provides an excellent foundation for future achievement and develops personal qualities of confidence, independence and social conscience. Expectations are high and the boys are encouraged to push the boundaries of their learning.

Open Days and Visits

The Admissions Team arrange Open Days each year for prospective pupils and their parents to visit the school. These are deliberately chosen to be during term time so that you can see the school in action and be guided round by current pupils who will give you a pupil’s viewpoint. Individual visits can be arranged at other times if the dates are not convenient for you.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we have organised virtual open events. These virtual events are a wonderful opportunity for you to discover what it is like to be a pupil with us and get a glimpse into the many opportunities across our family of schools.
