June 8, 2016

6 a side CricketThe U.13’s 6 a side cricket squad entered their first tournament in Solihull on Tuesday.

With no prior experience of this format of tournament the boys were quite apprehensive on the journey. Their first match was against Loughborough School. Winning the toss Harry decided to bat and we posted a competitive total of 67 off the 5 overs. Harry was the main batsman retiring on 25, and he was well supported by Charlie who was not out on 22. Loughborough started well and were well on target until Josh claimed a wicket with an in swinging yorker. Joe then performed an excellent run out with a direct hit, which checked the oppositions progress. A fine penultimate over from Ollie meant that Loughborough had too much to do in the final over. The second match saw us take on KES Birmingham. Batting first Sam and Josh got us off to a flyer and enabled us to post a formidable total of 71. KES could not keep up with the tough run rate and we won well. The final group match was against QEG Birmingham. Once gain batting first we posted a formidable total thanks to Harry’s 25, and an excellent 20 from Ollie. The bowlers then bowled in a controlled manner which saw us gain victory and a semi-final against King’s Worcester. We chase to field first and a fine all round bowling and fielding display saw us restrict King’s to 43. Some excellent batting from Sam and Harry saw us home with 2 overs to spare. This meant we were in the final against the hosts and much fancied Solihull team. They batted first and set a challenging total of 57. Some excellent bowling from Ollie and Harry restricted the opposition after they had made a quick-fire start. Our run chase started positively thanks to some excellent batting from Sam who retired on 25. Unfortunately we were not able to get over the line and we lost by 7 runs. It was a great tournament in which the boys played some excellent cricket and were a credit to the school.
