Two crews selected for Junior Inter-Regional Regatta in Nottingham

Two Monmouth School for Boys’ rowing crews have been chosen to compete next month at the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta (JIRR) in Nottingham.

The J16 and J15 coxed fours have been selected to represent the Wales and Wiltshire, Avon, Gloucestershire and Somerset region on Saturday 21st April.

The JIRR takes place the day before the GB Junior Regatta where Iwan and Robbie are part of the GB Trials process.

The selection of the two crews follows encouraging performances from the Monmouth rowers at The Schools Head of the River in London last week.

The annual Schools’ Head of the River Race on the Boat Race course in London marks the traditional end to the winter rowing season.

The event attracted 360 crews from schools across the country, as well as a number from Ireland and Europe.

Despite the miserable weather, the Monmouth School for Boys’ crews produced some encouraging results.

The best result for the school was achieved by the newly-formed senior eight who came fourth out of 20 1st eights, suggesting some good results are on the cards.

The senior coxed four came 12th out of 16 and the J16 Eight were eighth out of nine.

Although not being at full strength, the promising J15 eight were eighth in their category and 22nd out of 54 J15 VIIIs overall in a very tightly packed field.
