Top spot for Monmouth’s footballers

Monmouth School for Boys’ Under-14 A team have shone this season.

A football team in Monmouth is the top-ranked independent schools’ side in the country.

Monmouth School for Boys’ Under-14 A team have won all their nine matches this term to climb to the top of a 77-strong national league of schools from all over the UK.

The Monmouth team have scored 38 goals and conceded just eight to lead the way for their age group in the latest SchoolsSports.com Performance League rankings.

Team coach, Mr Rob Picken, has led this age section for the past three years and has an unbeaten record of 24 wins and three draws from 27 matches.

Last year, the under-15 A team finished runners-up out of 102 independent schools and the under-14 A team were eighth out of 122 schools.
