Tennis ace Will wins Welsh title

A tennis ace from Monmouth has been crowned a Welsh champion.

Will, a pupil at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools, stormed to the 11-and-under boys’ singles title at The Welsh Championships in Wrexham.

Will, aged 11, clinched the Welsh title after winning 6-3, 6-1 in an excellent 90-minute final.

Will also played in the 12-and-under singles competition and finished third, after being knocked out in his semi-final by the eventual winner.

It has a been a trophy-laden summer for talented Will, who is starting Year 7 at Monmouth School for Boys.

He has also won the Penarth Open, which is a regional title, plus the Gwent Open at both 11-and-under and 12-and-under levels.

Will does most of his tennis training at Usk under the supervision of coach, Sean Jones.
