Teenager scales Pen Y Fan for charity

April 25, 2018

A teenager from Monmouth School for Boys has defied wet and blustery conditions to scale the highest peak in south Wales to raise money for charity.

Tom, a Form II pupil, accompanied his father and more than 50 other people on the night hike up Pen Y Fan in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The minimum age for people taking part in the climb was 12 years old and Tom, 13, was the youngest in the party.

The group set off in wet and blustery conditions at 8pm, and made it to the top by 9.30pm, where the rain had turned to sleet and the visibility was very poor.

After a brief stop, the group returned to the base at 10.30pm.

Tom and his dad raised more than £650 for Cancer Research Wales.

Some of the money raised came from a successful cake sale in the Wye Dean house at Monmouth School for Boys.
