A well-respected society magazine has once again declared the Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools’ fees as “among the best value in the country”.

Hot off the press, the Tatler Schools Guide 2015 praises Monmouth School’s spectacular 400th Anniversary celebrations this year, which united all of the pupils, along with the students’ sporting and musical successes.

It says: “It’s Monmouth’s 400th anniversary this year and it’s had a hell of a party; more than 550 young musicians lifted the roof of the Wales Millennium Centre for a gala concert and the whole school was transported from the banks of the Wye to St Paul’s Cathedral for a service of thanksgiving (some feat with 1,500 people).

“And what an event it must have been, because Monmouth excels at music.

“It’s very sporty too and particularly good at rugby (this is Wales, after all), and last year’s head boy won his first cap against Tonga in the Autumn Internationals.”

The publication also speaks highly of the Schools’ healthy meals and refers to the good work done by Monmouth School Headmaster, Dr Steven Connors, who is set to retire next year.

It reads: “The young ones board in homely Chapel House, where they eat all of their meals in-house, with some food sourced from the school’s own veg patch.

“They team up with Habs’ Girls next door for drama and music.

“Parents have high praise not only for Dr Steven Connors but also his wife Liz.

“A teacher herself, she’s set up a charity for children with special needs and helps pupils with learning difficulties.

“Dr Connors has announced he will retire next year – his will be big shoes to fill.

“To top it off, fees here are among the best value in the country, thanks to a generous endowment income from the Haberdashers’ Company.”
