A talented wicketkeeper-batsman from Monmouth School for Boys has won national acclaim after scoring four centuries during the summer.

Nathan, who also represents Wales at age-group level, has been named Talent Cricket Young Player of the Month in October’s edition of The Cricketer magazine.

Nathan hit almost 1,000 runs for the school last season, including an unbeaten 130 against Hereford Cathedral School, 101 against Sir Thomas Rich’s and 129 not out against Colston’s School.

Nathan also tasted success with his club, Port Talbot Town, scoring 150 for the 2nd XI against Ynystawe 2nd XI.

He was promoted to Port Talbot’s 1st XI in the competitive South Wales Premier League and he finished the summer with an average of 85.70 across the 23 matches he played.

The 16-year-old said: “I am very pleased to have won The Cricketer magazine’s young player of the month award for September after scoring 973 runs for the school.

“I play cricket from October through to the beginning of September.”

Nathan (pictured, centre) enjoyed meeting former England batsman Marcus Trescothick (left), Worcestershire opener Daryl Mitchell (right) and several former Glamorgan stars, including Old Monmothian Steve James, when they visited the school as part of a charity bike ride on October 16.

Nathan added: “The standard of cricket coaching at Monmouth School for Boys is fantastic and has helped me hugely in scoring runs consistently.

“Mr Jones is a really good coach and Graham Burgess also helps me through the Wales set-up.”

Head of Cricket at Monmouth School for Boys, Mr Andy Jones, said: “Nathan had an outstanding season with the bat with three excellent centuries for the school.

“We are delighted to see him achieve this well-deserved recognition in a national cricketing magazine.”
