Students triumph in Wales final

June 5, 2020

A group of budding entrepreneurs at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School has triumphed in the Wales final of this year’s Young Enterprise Company awards.

Prospect, consisting of Sixth Form students at Monmouth School for Girls and Monmouth School for Boys, won The Welsh Student Company of the Year 2020.

Led by Managing Director, Anna, Prospect has been making bumble wraps – a natural alternative to single-use plastic.

The company, which also won the Customer Service award and was based at Monmouth School for Girls, will now be representing Wales in the UK Finals on 17th June.

“We have been selling our kits and posting them to our customers during the lockdown,” said Anna.

“We are providing two sheets of 100% cotton, beeswax, pine resin, a care leaflet and a cotton drawstring bag.

“Our kits are a fun activity to do during lockdown and beeswax wraps are a must for every household.”

Byeco, the other student company at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools, also excelled with its recyclable can lid, called Sip N Slide, winning the Best Presentation and Most Innovative Product awards.

Joe, from Byeco, said: “Our recyclable lids attach to drink cans with the aim of reducing fizz loss and spillage, preventing spiking and keeping insects, dust and dirt out.”
