Students enjoy Caerleon in the Autumn sun

October 17, 2016

eal-caerleoneal-caerleonOn Sunday, senior EAL students from Monmouth School and HMSG enjoyed a trip in the glorious autumn sunshine to Caerleon Roman remains near Newport. The students explored the spectacular Roman amphitheatre, imagining the bloodthirsty times when gladiators would have fought there. There was a chance to visit the remains of the barracks and then to see them reconstructed in the museum (complete with Roman soldier!).  We also visited the bath house, looking at the mosaics and the amazing system for heating and draining water; we could also explore some of the interesting artefacts on display there – and try on some Roman helmets. This was a fantastic opportunity for the EAL students to explore Wales’s ancient past and enjoy a day our together.
