Sports News: Great start for 1st XI Football

January 25, 2016

Every week we will endeavour to keep you up to date with all of the sporting action at Monmouth School, whether it be in the gym, on the fields in the river or at the pool. The following is the football report for last week from the captain of the 1st XI:

Football Best Season Ever 2015

1st XI

This has been a very successful start to the season for the 1st XI, with two very convincing wins of 3-0 and 5-0 over Forest Academy. With a few pre-season games cancelled, the boys worked surprisingly well as a team, with lots of nice one-touch football and we have therefore put ourselves in a good position to face one of the country’s best independent footballing schools last Saturday, namely Shrewsbury. We were able to work the touchlines and put it in an early goal to surprise the opposition, who then seemed to panic. We were able to capitalise on this and put away three more goals to come away with a very impressive 4-0 victory. Let’s hope we can keep a clean sheet for the rest of the season and particularly this Saturday as we face up to Malvern College.

2nd and 3rd XIs

The 3rd XI gained a 2-0 victory over Wycliffe College and the 2nd XI also came away with a strong 4-2 win over a talented Wycliffe 1st XI.

U16 XI

The U16s suffered a narrow loss against a Wycliffe College 2nd XI, who put out a strong side this year.

U15 XI

The U15s have had an excellent start to the season with a win over Malpas FC and a 7-0 win over The King’s School Worcester. The U15Bs managed to beat Wycliffe A team by 4 goals to 1, let’s hope the U15s can maintain this form after such an excellent start to the season.

U14 XI

The U14s kicked off their season with a narrow victory over Wycliffe College and a loss against The King’s School Worcester.
