Nineteen teams flocked to Monmouth for a spectacular day of sevens rugby in glorious weather conditions.

Monmouth School for Boys’ Under-12s Tournament was a huge success with Stroud’s Marling School deservedly winning the Cup competition.

The hosts, Monmouth, played some excellent rugby, finishing runners-up in their group to reach the quarter-finals of the Cup.

However, the home side’s hopes of Cup glory were dashed when they drew 4-4 with Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School.

Monmouth bowed out of the competition because the visitors had bagged the opening try.

Bishop Vesey’s eventually progressed to the Cup final where they were beaten 4-2 by Marling School in a very tense showdown.

The third annual tournament, organised by Monmouth School for Boys’ Director of Rugby, Mr Jon Despontin, took place on Wednesday 27th February and was played across four groups.

Teams finishing third or fourth in a group progressed to the Shield and the fifth-placed teams went into the Bowl.

Cheltenham Bournside School and Sixth Form Centre captured the Bowl, beating Cardiff’s Ysgol Bro Edern 5-0 in the final.

Solihull School reached the Shield final and hit back from a 3-0 deficit to record an impressive 8-4 victory against RGS Worcester.
