Rowers reach their potential at National Schools’ regatta

June 8, 2017

The premier event of the junior rowing season took place over the first weekend of half term on Eton College’s Olympic rowing course. The rowing club entered five crews over all age groups. Friday’s racing was affected by strong winds, which was unfortunate for the two J14 octuples, but both crews raced really well showing huge enthusiasm and gained much from the experience.

On Saturday the J15 eight raced superbly throughout the day, and were only narrowly squeezed out of a place in the ‘A’ final. The 1st four also produced some very fine performances and were close to medal pace, eventually being placed fifth in the ‘A’ final.

On the Sunday the J16 four went one better in their ‘A’ final, after a tough time trial and semi-final, sadly just missing a medal in being placed fourth. All the boys who raced can be proud of their excellent performances and we can look forward to some medal-winning racing in future years with so much talent and commitment in the club.

The J14s and J15s are off to race at Marlow Town Regatta this weekend and the J16s and seniors are combining to form a 1st VIII, with the aim of racing at Henley Royal Regatta at the end of the month.
