Rowers bid for Home International Regatta success

Eight rowers from Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools will be representing Wales at the 2018 Home International Regatta in Ireland on Saturday 21st July.

Monmouth School for Boys’ Robbie, Iwan, Ben, Antony and Captain of Boats, Georg, have been selected for Wales’ junior men’s team.

It will be a memorable weekend for Iwan, in particular, because he has been named as the Wales Boys’ team captain for the showpiece on Inniscarra Lake in Cork.

Monmouth School for Girls’ pupils Stephanie, Sophia, and cox Abigail have been chosen to represent Wales’ junior women for the first time.

Georg, Robbie and Iwan will be rowing in the coxed four and the eight and will be joined by Ben in the four and Antony in the VIII after impressive performances at the National Schools and Henley Royal regattas,

Stephanie, Sophia and Abigail will be in the girls’ eight and coxed four after they shone at the trials in Monmouth.

Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools will have the largest representation in the Welsh squad.

The crews arrive in Ireland on Friday in readiness for racing in the team competitions.

As well as aiming for individual glory, every crew is racing to gain points for their respective girls or boys team in a bid to help Wales triumph against England, Ireland and Scotland.
