Quiz boys win national plate final

June 24, 2019

A quiz team has won the plate competition in the national finals of the annual Junior Schools’ Challenge.

Monmouth School for Boys’ pupils William, Sam, Alfie and Gwyndaf were in excellent form in the final at Warwick School on Sunday’s 23rd June.

They defeated Loughborough Grammar School, 690-370, to clinch the silverware.

The Monmouth boys had previously swept past Dorset-based Clayesmore School in the South-West region final.

Schools’ Challenge was founded in 1978 and the Monmouth quartet are ranked among the leading junior general knowledge quiz teams in the country.

Captain William led the team in being gracious, supportive, resilient and working well together.

The Monmouth boys showed impeccable behaviour and supportive teamwork and they were thrilled to come home with silverware.

Not only did the boys win the plate, but they also helped out with scoring for teams when they weren’t playing.

The Monmouth boys had already retained the Eric Cunnell Cup after winning the local round.
