OM makes Softball GB trials

April 26, 2016

OM in softball GB trialsThe annual GB Challenge Tournament took place on Saturday 16 April at Farnham Park as 38 players from the GB Slowpitch pool played to convince the coaches that they’re ready for selection.

This is an annual mid-April event, where three teams made up of GB Slowpitch pool players and one “Challenger” team play out a tournament so that the GB players can show off their skills and game awareness and fight for selection for the WBSC Slowpitch World Cup and the World Championship this coming November in Florida. And, despite the great camaraderie in the GB Slowpitch programme, the GB Challenge Tournament is a fiercely competitive event, because fewer than half the players in the pool are going to get selected for the main international competition of the year.

OM Rob Mosley (centre rear with red cap on) was selected to play for the GB Reds who went on to win the event with a crushing mercy rule victory. Having been the GB U19 Field Captain and having played in the senior squad already Rob is keeping his fingers crossed that his outstanding performances on the day will get him a seat on the plane for the upcoming championships. The Monmouth Rockets wish him luck!
