OM cricketers reach finals of national tournament

July 24th, 2015

cricketOld Monmothian cricketers are celebrating reaching the finals of a national tournament for the first time ever.

The OM cricket team recently beat Old Westminsters in the semis of The Cricketer Trophy, played at the picturesque Vincent Square Ground in the heart of Westminster.

Having previously beaten Millfield at home to reach the penultimate game, this is the first time the OM team has made it past the first round in the three years they have entered the competition.

The team, which includes Glamorgan 2nd XI player Jon Denning, 24, chased down OWs 142-8 off 50 overs with some ease, to reach 145-4 in the 29th.

They face Old Hurst Johnians in the Final at 10.45am on August 9 at Gerrards Cross Cricket Club.

Ray Blight, Vice President of the OM Club, said: “The team won more easily than perhaps they expected to, and they are probably in for a harder game in the Final.

“Old Hurst Johnians will be a different kettle of fish – it will be a serious game.

“We’d love to see some London-based OMs there supporting us on the day.”

Ray is investigating organising a minibus from Monmouth to Gerrards Cross for those who would like to support the team.
