Monmouth School and HMSG Musicians to perform in Pope’s Church

May 12, 2017

A party of forty Monmouth School and HMSG musicians has secured a rare invitation to perform in St. Peter’s in Rome. The singers and string players will provide music for a service in the largest church in the world as part of their tour to Italy in July this year. They will also give a concert in the American Church in Rome, the Arts Complex in Perugia and sing for the Sunday service in Perugia Cathedral on their last day.

In recent years the choir has sung in St. Paul’s Cathedral, as well as the Mezquita of Cordoba and the Aix-en-Provence Festival. Their tours are not all music though – in Italy they will also visit the factory in Perugia where the famous ‘Baci’ (chocolate kisses) are made.

Monmouth School Director of Music, David Lawson, said ‘tours like this are always a balance of fun and serious performance, none more so than St. Peter’s. I hope the experience will be one they’ll never forget’.
