Monmouth inspires student, all the way to art college

March 9, 2019

A Level Art & Design student Agassiz, Year 13, has seen all his hard work pay off after receiving offers from two of the most prestigious art colleges in the UK. Agassiz took his portfolio of artwork to London’s St Martins College of Art and Goldsmiths and both were quick to offer him a place.

His successful body of work that impressed at interview included his project based on tea for which he constructed his own version of the famous Willow Pattern, but with a twist. Instead of taking inspiration for the design from China, he looked closer to home in Monmouth, with the Monnow Bridge, the war memorial, kingfishers and Monmouth School’s own mulberry tree featuring rather than the traditional willow tree. He has incorporated his designs into an impressive art installation featuring charcoal drawings, screen printing and ceramics.

Agassiz is delighted to have received offers from such elite art colleges and is looking forward to taking up his place in September. All he has to do now is decide which one!
