Latest Rugby News: Resounding wins the highlight of the weekend

September 21, 2016

rugby-nov-28th-0316After a disappointing set of results against Clifton, all Monmouth teams rebounded in fine fashion on Saturday the 17th. All the way from the u13’s to the 1st XV, there was an array of excellent results against Old Swinford Hospital, clearly highlighting the rapid improvement all the boys are making in the infancy of the season. For the u13’s, there was a 20 points to 10 victory for the B’s and the A’s secured a 36-10 win, whilst there were outstanding 64-0 and 54-0 wins for the u14 A’s and B’s respectively. Although the u15 A’s lost 15-0, there were 40-17 and 46-0 wins for the u15 B’s and the u16 XV. Whilst the 3rd XV game was disappointingly cancelled, many 3rd XV players seized the opportunity to aid the 2nd XV ran out 34-15 winners. For the 1st XV, it was a successful outing with a 23-15 victory secured by tries from Toby, Max and an excellent brace from fly-half David; the score line not reflecting Monmouth’s dominance in the game but rather the questionable refereeing which stifled any real momentum. However, there wasn’t much time for the team to bask in the glory of the win as on Wednesday Radley College travelled to Monmouth for the first round of the Champions Cup, a knock-out competition which pits the top 32 teams in the country against each other. Pleasingly, Monmouth played brilliantly in an outstanding and highly intense game which ended 21-13 in our favour; with notable performances coming from the half-back pairing of Richards and Paris as well the back-three of Asanji, Kyle and Dan. As the results indicate, the season is rapidly burgeoning for all the teams and they have all deserved a short but relaxing rest over the Exeat weekend.
