Two pupils at Monmouth School for Boys won medals at the Welsh Athletics Inter-Regional Track and Field Championships.

Harry picked up a gold medal and Aharon scooped two bronze medals for East Wales in Aberdare.

Harry won the Under-13 Boys’ 1500m race in a large field, setting a new championship record and achieving a personal-best time of 4:47.97.

Aharon, 13, was third in the Under-15 Boys’ pole vault with a final clearance of 2.60m to equal his personal best and he also bagged a team bronze in the Under-15 Boys’ 4x200m relay.

Harry, 12, was delighted to complete the Under-13 Boys’ race two seconds quicker than his Welsh Junior Championship winning-time in June.

With the girls’ and boys’ races being held at the same time, it was the largest field in which Harry had started.

However, Harry ran a controlled race. He allowed others to take the front before making his move with 500m to go, winning the first individual track gold of the competition.

Harry also took part in the Under-13 Boys’ javelin competition for the first time since an injury at the start of the season and finished a creditable sixth.

Aharon has had a great season in the Under-15 Boys’ pole vault and should reach even greater heights next year as a senior under-15 athlete.

Aharon was third in the Under-15 Boys’ pole vault.
