Hockey duo flourish in Wales’ series against Scotland

Mari played all three matches for Wales.

Two hockey players at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools flourished for Wales in a hard-fought three-match series against Scotland in Cardiff.

Dan and Mari impressed for their respective Wales under-18s boys’ and girls’ teams against well organised Scottish opponents.

Dan had a very exciting weekend at Sophia Gardens in which he celebrated his 18th birthday within the Welsh camp.

The Monmouth School for Boys’ student, who represented the under-18s for the first time, then scored a goal in each of the team’s opening two matches which ended in 2-2 draws.

However, Scotland were ruthless in the final match, charging to an 8-1 win to clinch an overall victory in the series.

Sixteen-year-old Mari, a pupil at Monmouth School for Girls, played in all three matches for her Welsh team.

Mari worked hard throughout as Wales drew the first game 5-5 and were pipped 2-1 in the second match.

Scotland sealed the series with a 4-2 success in the third fixture, but it was an excellent experience for Mari who came up against more experienced opponents.
