Henry’s hard work pays off in Battle of the Regions

March 3, 2021

Hard work and determination paid off for a speedy 14-year-old athlete, who has been pounding the streets of Monmouth during the winter months.

Henry, a Year 10 pupil at Monmouth School for Boys, was the joint winner in his age category in a virtual competition organised by Welsh Athletics.

The promising sportsman, who often trains with his father, topped the Under-15 Boys individual section, alongside East Wales team-mate, Jack, in the 2k Battle of the Regions.

More than 100 athletes from across Wales took to streets, fields, industrial estates and parks to run a solo virtual 2k time-trial for the competition.

Henry’s excellent result demonstrates that despite the challenges faced by young athletes, they are still training hard and can deliver fantastic performances.

Athletes from the East, West, North, and South also competed against each other in the team section, with West Wales coming out on top.
